Since Techstars San Diego is powered by SDSU, does that mean only students can apply?

No. Anyone can apply to Techstars San Diego powered by SDSU. You don’t need to be affiliated with SDSU in any way. 

You also don’t have to live in San Diego to apply to the program. However, if accepted into the Techstars San Diego powered by SDSU accelerator you’ll need to relocate to San Diego in order to participate. Many of our portfolio companies came from other cities, states, and even countries outside of the US and now call San Diego home. 

What’s so special about having a university partner like SDSU?

It means we get the best of both worlds - access to a strong San Diego tech innovation ecosystem plus access to a strong well-respected academic institution. 

It also means the ability to connect with creative, bright, and aspiring talent eager to learn about business or help you build; access to academic resources and cutting-edge research; as well as credibility and the opportunity for greater brand awareness with a built in community of students, faculty, and staff.

Who We’re Looking For

Our accelerator is agnostic in terms of our investment thesis, however, we’re interested in: 

✅ Diverse, early-stage, tech founders and teams working in nearly any industry or vertical 

✅ B2B or B2C tech (so no life- or bioscience companies for this class, simply because the go-to-market cycle is generally too long for a fast-paced 13-week accelerator program) 

✅ Founders using technology in a unique way and building a product or service in a big market with growing opportunity
