Raul Abreu & Antonio Tinto from LambdAI
Which problem are you trying to mediate?
At LambdAI Space, we aim to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the impact of climate change on agriculture. Climate risks such as hail, drought, frost, and other extreme weather events threaten crops and food security, leaving farmers and insurers struggling to assess and mitigate damage effectively. Our solution is designed to democratize remote monitoring for climate impact, providing precise and timely insights for insurance and agricultural stakeholders. By using satellite imagery and AI, we help insurers manage parametric climate-related products more efficiently, reducing uncertainty and promoting climate resilience. Our work directly aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), and Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
How did the idea to create the company come to mind? How did your team come to be?
The idea for LambdAI Space was born out of a coffee shop in Hong Kong, alongside a shared realization of the growing need for technology that addresses climate risks and the expanding space economy. Both Raul and Antonio have spent years working at the intersection of space technology, artificial intelligence, and business solutions. Raul's background with the European Space Agency and Antonio's experience in consulting and building startups gave them a unique perspective on how satellite data and AI could drive climate resilience. They combined their strengths—Raul's technical expertise in AI solutions and Antonio's entrepreneurial experience—to build a solution that provides meaningful, actionable insights to those affected by climate change.
Why did you choose to participate in the Paris Techstars accelerator program? What are you looking forward to the most?
We chose the Techstars Paris accelerator because of its focus on sustainability, technology, and its incredible network of mentors and partners. We knew that participating in the program would accelerate our growth, allowing us to refine our product, expand our market reach, and gain invaluable insights from experts in our industry. We are especially looking forward to building meaningful partnerships, gaining insights from like-minded entrepreneurs, and leveraging the expertise of Techstars mentors to refine our impact strategy.
What are you the most proud of in your initial journey with your company?
We are most proud of how quickly we have moved from idea to execution, achieving significant milestones along the way. From early discussions to forming partnerships with insurance brokers and conducting our first proof of concept, we have shown that our technology has real-world applicability and value. Our journey has been filled with challenges, especially in making complex AI solutions accessible to traditional industries, but our ability to deliver impactful solutions and build trust with our partners is what we're most proud of.
How do you plan to measure the positive impact of your company in the next 5 years? Environmentally focused question.
In the next five years, we plan to measure our positive impact through a combination of environmental and economic metrics. Environmentally, we will track the reduction of financial losses due to climate impact on agriculture by offering reliable and accessible climate risk assessment tools. This will be reflected in improved resilience for farmers, fewer claims disputes for insurers, and reduced operational costs for brokers. Additionally, we will quantify our contribution to carbon reduction by facilitating sustainable agricultural practices through precise monitoring—helping farmers make data-driven decisions to reduce resource consumption. Our goal is to reach thousands of hectares monitored, reducing both climate vulnerability and promoting climate-smart practices on a large scale.
Good luck LambdAI!
